just a heads up, Comcast and Charter are the same company. My dad works for Charter as a field supervisor and I get all of that insider info...
Do What?
That's a little "insider info" that I'm sure the executives of those 2 companies as well as the shareholders would sure like to find out about, since they are most definitely NOT the same company. They're about as close to being "the same company" as Microsoft and Apple are. They're fierce rivals in any region they compete in.
Comcast has been around for ages, Charter is a relative newcomer and owned primarily by Paul Allen, the guy from Microsoft, who has said that he might just buy the rest of the stock and take the company private. Comcast is doing alright, Charter is in dire financial straits and burning through money like it's going out of style.
You must be confusing either AT&T Broadband/Comcast which are one in the same now, or AT&T/SBC which are one in the same now. Because it certainly ain't Charter/Comcast. A quick look at their respective stock charts (CHTR & CMCSA) makes their differences VERY clear.
Dude, microsoft owns apple. They arent the SAME company persay I probably did go a little far in saying that, but Charter has some ownership in them... Just like Microsoft actually owns about 40% of apple.

You won't be disappointed! I switched from Comcast and their 6.0meg, to the Verizon FIOS 5meg, and it's definitely a better connection than the Comcast. The FIOS gives you your OWN connection, where as with Comcast, I was sharing everyone else in the area's line. Not to mention, the installers for Verizon were actually helpful, and they aren't trying to gouge me for $65/mo for cable internet.

Um. No.
Microsoft can't own 40% of Apple. 72% of Apple stock is owned by mutual funds and other institutional traders. More than 5% is owned by Steve Jobs. And several more % is owned by insiders, leaving just 15% for the rest of the market.
In truth Microsoft owns a teeny, tiny portion of Apple stock. If they still owned all the stock they bought way back in 1997, and it's doubtful that they still do, (there's no SEC filings for selling such a small percentage of shares) Microsoft would own just a bit less than 2% of Apple. That's a far cry from 40%.
Charter has no ownership in Comcast. Charter doesn't have the money to have ownership in anybody let alone any real portion of a comapny that's 125 times larger than it is.
Comcast could have ownership in Charter, but it's not good business to invest in a company that you make every attempt to drive out of business. Comcast has been very successful at driving down Charter's earnings and therefore it's stock price. Why would you want to own stock in a company that you've managed to drive down from $20/share to $1/share in just 4 years(unless you're buying it now at $1/share and you expect them to do better). And, at most, Comcast could only own a small percentage of Charter. Over 80% of shares are held by institutional traders or insiders. There's very little on the open market for Comcast to pick up.
If either company owns any percentage of the other, it's less than 5%, because any more than that has to be declared to the SEC with a 13D filing as a "beneficial owner" and the purchase declared on any 8K filings, and neither company has done so.

I used to have Comcast. I had nothing but problems that they were never able to correct. Internet would drop out randomly during the day. Would be off for a few mins, hours or days. When I would call them because it was off for about half a day, they would do there worthless diagnostic from the office and always tell me the connection is working fine. They said they would have to send a tech to the house, and won't be 4 days till they come out. So of course I'd be without internet for days, then it would randomly come back on. They then would not come out to check it since they said it's working and nothing can be done if it's working at that time.
We changed over to a complete SBC package now. "Premium" DSL, Satellite Dish TV, and digital telephone. Much much cheaper for all together in one package and never have any problems at all with my connection. SBC's DSL configuration is a joke however. Piss poor software installation and hardware provided for connection. I requested a standard DSL modem and they gave me 2WIRE Home Portal garbage. I sent it back, ignored all there bullsh*t software install and configured everything in the modem and my router manually, and never had a problem.
I've done many on-site installs for DSL though and had nothing but problems using there software. They constantly change the software too, so everytime you learn one, it changes on the next CD release.
So it's either I'm stuck with slower but reliable DSL or get Comcast's high speed which never stays online and pay 3 times as much. It's crazy how much Comcast controls and you really don't have a choice on service besides them.

i have comcast and have had it for years. never really had any major problems other than the 'bad' modem they gave me originally. literally it had the word "bad" written on the back and the warranty label ripped. i didnt notice this for a while. ended up buying my own modem.
other than the price i actually like comcast.

Give it a little time. Verizon is working on changing that. When I had my FIOS installed about a month ago, the installer said they'll be offering cable television in about 8 months. Sorry Comcast, but your price gouging is going to have to come to an end when Verizon offers the same package for $50/mo. less!!
