Originally posted by TourDeForce: I got fresh carpet for my first Contour from a similar place that supposedly made molds from the floorpans of the actual vehicles. Still wasn't quite right as the mold had a HUGE center hump and the fit was terrible. I was forced to use lots adhesive & EXTRA padding to make up the difference & deaden sound (which worked out VERY well actually). I had to cut in all my own holes & chiz for all the stuffs like e-brake, shifter, dash supports on the center hump, seats, etc. If you don't get those just right, you've ruined your carpet. Fortunately, I could forsee the problems, just slit holes in the central locations, and cut out the appropriate holes AFTER the carpet was set in place & ready for glue. Sorta like a full blown test fit with trim pieces in place & everything.
Wasn't worth it. If I had it to do all over again, I'd likely get factory new from Bill Jenkins.
Bill's a great guy, but he can't control what kind of crap Ford puts out as "OEM Replacement."
I replaced my floormats with OEM, (from Bill) and they suck. Ford changed the mats from rubber to some kind of cheap, stiff plastic that won't lay flat, and they aren't even as big as the originals.
With carpet, I'll take my chances on aftermarket before I get suckered in by "OEM" again.
Function before fashion.
