Wouldn't this have been detected within the diagnosis.

Sometimes it drops a noticable amount of voltage. I did indeed try ignoring the light and driving normally. One weekend at woodward, I pulled a couple 30 rolls and trashed out the alternator completely (running at 12 volts and constant battery light).
