Well, first off, I would if I could find a job that would pay me enough to put my son in daycare while I worked. I don't have a college education, so I can't really get a GOOD job making bank.

Second, my hubby is deployed right now, so I can't take a part-time job in the evenings or weekends, so that's not going to cut it.

Third, nobody said it was breaking us at all. It's just the fact that we want to save money on gas. Is that so darn bad? I mean, maybe between you & your spouse, that $50 or $60 doesn't seem so damn much, but for a 1 income family, it does. Don't think just because in YOUR finacial situation it wouldn't hurt that it won't hurt anyone else. You just don't know.

I'd suggest YOU help in this situation by getting a part time job in the evening or weekends.

It takes a while to get used to spending $50 or more to fill up with regular gas. My truck gets 13mpg. I fill up twice every month so $100 per month or $1200 per year isn't too much.

You were considering putting a $6,000 down payment on a car just to get the payments down to a lower level. $6,000 and you don't even get anywhere near positive equity. You'd just be throwing good money at bad. Your financial situation is obviously not that bad.

Hell, the interest alone on that money would almost pay for the gas consumption difference between a new car and your minivan.

Yeah but the $6,000 is not really mine, it's HIS money from an inheritance, and like I said, I am not going to do it, and he emailed me back and said "HELL NO!" LOLOLOL

I told him that I didn't want to hear anymore BS about gas prices then. Hehehehe. Plus, he's going to the sandbox, like he has to worry about the price of gas for another 6 months.

By sandbox do you mean the middle east? If so, I'm sorry to hear that.

His money? I have never understood couples who keep money seperate. What I have, Chris has and what Chris has, I have. But that is my marriage, not yours.

Yeah, he's going to the middle east. Don't like it, but it's the military, what am I gonna do?

As for the "his money" thing, well, it is. It's inheritance money from his grandparents passing. Yeah, both of them. Grandfather passed away back in June of last year, then his grandma(wife of the one who passed away) passed away in September. She just gave up after he died.
So that really is his money. Not like he doesn't give any to me, but he put it away so we don't spend it like water. Now, even though I don't work, his paycheck I can spend. LOL

Really, have you thought about just buying something along the lines of a early 90's honda crx? great milage if you can find an unmolested one. Park the van and drive the doodlebug. Problem solved. Call hubby and tell him your buying sex toys with the money you saved.

Meh...have a doctor sew a couple of suction cups to their butts, then *bop!* stick 'em on the hatchback glass!
