Tony2005 : i did read your links before i made this posting & after you referred to them in your reply !
i understand the " pre-filter-disc-screen " is too fine and MUST BE REMOVED !

i am just concerned that the sock-filter may be or could in ANY way be contributing to the symptoms we know ! there was a thread/post/reply in our forum where a member said they had a re-occurance of the symptoms , likely from a dirty sock-filter !

I am NOT interested in having to deal with this more than 1X , as my friend will have the fuel-pump pulled through the rear-seat & may need to cut away at the floor . i am also purchasing a new gasket to go under the locking ring as I WANT TO DO THIS RIGHT & FINAL only !

guess what i really am looking to gauge from your responses is either BAD or GOOD idea to remove the sock filter and rely on the fuel-filter for gaurding the engine !

the car only has like 50,000 miles for a 99 , the FP has lots more life ! how can i justify close to a $1000 job for a engineers blunder !

lets hear more opinions !!!!!!
