All it would take is a tiny fraction of the money we are spending in Iraq to tighten our borders and beef-up airport security so that no terrorist would have a chance of getting here.

I'm sure it comforts you greatly to believe that.

In their own society, without outside interference, these 'people' win it all - they become the state. Against a defenseless civilian population, organized brutality will always rule. The most energy rich regions on the earth under the complete control of such people. An entire generation raised to believe what they believe - or else. All of this coupled with a technical sophistication that makes nuclear weapons and other weapons-of-mass-destruction easier and easier to achieve. There is no happy ending here for us.

If people like you ever hold sway in the US, OUR children will curse our damndable shortsightedness - and rightfully so. You may be sick of hearing about reality, but that does not change reality.

This is a problem that this generation must face now. There will be no other time for which the cost in blood and treasure will be less. Tip this whole impending world disaster towards democracy and peace... and a brutal, horrible future will not come to be.

I know I'm short-sighted and ignorant of reality but you didn't address my gripe with the statement by EternalOne. He stated that if we were not in Iraq fighting terrorists, then the terrorists would try to come here. My question was, how would they get here? When would they get the chance? What could we be doing that would prevent them from getting here?
Now I could understand the need for immediate action if some "axis of evil" country had the ability to build an ICBM (Korea?).
