That map is awesome Pete! Do you know how recent that is?

To stay on topic... Why are all of you jumping his case? I don't know many car people that tint their windows, that DON'T tint it darker than legal. I've had 2 window tint tickets, and both times I've just paid it, and left it on(obviously). I've had the car for almost 6 years, had the windows tinted as soon as I got the car, and have only gotten 2 tickets since. It's a price you pay!!

Otherwise, you can try and make an appointment with an eye doctor, and see if he can write you a prescription for the tint. Not sure if it will get you out of the ticket, as the prescription won't be written until AFTER you got the ticket.

your luck then. the tickets i've seen like mine required the car to be inspected by dmv. failing the test means u have to strip the tint then bring it back to show them so they write it off. otherwise i guess they get into penalties and/or license points/maybe suspension after a while. if they gave me a ticket with a certain fine, i would've paid it. i guess paying to retint it was sorta my fine.

strip the tint, get it written off, then retint again. and repeat the process the next time u get caught

Don't know how recent it is, but the Texas limit has changed since that map.

And it's not so much that he's being ragged on simply for having dark tint. It's because he had already been pulled over and warned over it and he decided to say "[censored] it!"

Personally, the tint on my truck is less than 5%, but I have my reasons. If I were to get stopped and ticketed, I'd pay the fine.

I was just trying to drive home the idea that the reason for limits on tinting seem to be concerning safety, and with the fairly large disparity state-to-state it would seem some states value their "safety" more than others.

I would imagine that even with 115 degree days in the desert it doesn't get that much hotter inside a car than it does in FL (or at least it probably doesn't feel 25 degrees warmer), but that is another argument/discussion altogether.

I'm not sure, but in the states I know the law, it is up to date. There are a bunch of web sites out there that list it as well, but this is a handy-dandy image.

That must be a state-specific thing. AFAIK (I've never gotten a tint ticket in NY, knock on wood), in NYS you can either can the tint taken off and have it thrown out (fix it ticket) or pay the fine.

Thanks Mark for kinda being the only one to back me up. The legal here is 50 when my percent ended up being 23. Its not DARK but it is still illegal. I said [censored] it because my last contour was tinted 20 percent for 3 years and never got pulled over once, now on this car I got a warning and thought whats the odds of getting pulled over AGAIN? I wasn't whining about paying the ticket, I guess I'm gonna pay and the tint will stay. I was just thinking of any way I might be able to save, what, 120 bucks (I'll find out monday).

Anyway continue on...

Sorry man, my only problem with this is you got pulled over, got a warning, and you were cocky enough to think you wouldn't get pulled over again for it. That was dumb. You SHOULD have taken care of it right after it happened. Would have saved you $120. Next time, don't waste time thinking it won't happen again, and just do what the cops say. You KNEW it was illegal, take care of the problem like a man. That's the only point we are all trying to make.

In fact, I consider a moderate tint (30% or so) to be a safety feature in reducing glare, with minimal impact to night vision.

If only we could choose our own laws. What you say would be valid.

Laws aren't based on the people who customize a vehicle, there based to protect, some are out of date, some need revising. They'll do it when THEY want to not us.

Also i think color of your car has a lot to do with it and keeping your sunroof cover open.

For instance one of my friends has a white civic, has gotten pulled over twice for tint, another friend has a white cherokee, been pulled over once, I have a black svt and always keep the sunroof cover open, never been pulled over. All have 20% tint in Ohio. Bright colors make tint look darker.

"Fix It Ticket" FIX For $120 you can by 2 windows at the wreckers put them in, get the tickets signed off, go home and put your tinted windows back in and wait until next time. After all the windows in the Tour bolt to the regulator, no rivets or anything stupid.

I had a fix it tickect for front window tint on my truck. Like Carpepoon said, I had the option to remove the tint and get any officer to sign the ticket to dismiss or pay the $70 fine. I removed the tint ($30) and went to the court house to find an officer/turn in the ticket only to have one ask if I actually removed it without even checking my truck. Oh, well.

Gotta agree about paying to play, though.
