ill probably be googling and such to try and find the answer but your first hand experience is always helpful thanks

They're basically the same as Composite cables they just look different. And cost a hell of a lot more. I think the component cables for the PS2 are at least $25.

Playstation2 and XBox have Component output, but I don't believe the GameCube has that option. And all the next generation consoles coming out have Component.

Any new TV you buy is going to have a lot of Component jacks on the back, and probably fewer of the old Red/White/Yellow Composite. That can be an important factor when buying a TV. An additional factor that swayed me to the Toshiba over the Samsung was that it had more Component inputs.

That's one more thing -- You'll have to get used to expensive cables when you buy your TV. There's no use continuing to use crappy Composite cabling with your HDTV, consoles, home theatre system, and (presumably) 720p+ DVD player. You'll defeat the point of buying a nice TV. You're going to need Optical, HDMI, and Component cables depending on what you're hooking up to, all of which (particularly HDMI and Optical) are VERY expensive. You can easily spend anywhere from a couple-hundred to several-hundred on cables alone depending on the ones you'll need, the brand, and the lengths you need. I think 3-feet of optical cable cost me like $70 or some absurd crap.
