17's or 18's really wont hurt your gas mileage... my brother had a Jetta, with his 14's he got about 25 in the city, this is with a 2.0L SOHC engine, he puts 17's on it and it went down to about 24.... And the rims effected his speedo, so its possible that the gas mileage didnt even go down..
