I personally do not like mj and its effects on me. But the debate about the laws is interesting. I am open minded about the subject and would like to see the debate here.

And I think it is closed minded to say "I want it to stay illegal because it doesnt effect me". How about getting rid of handicapped parking spaces because "the law doesnt effect me" and it makes me have to park further away? Oh you think there is a reason there should be handicapped spaces? There is a reason other people think MJ should be legal....

why? no one is flaming anyone. and we were told by Rara we could have a civil debate in a new thread about it.

personally, i am tired of arguing my point (until someone says some ignorant in this thread...). it's something that is driven into people's heads and has been for so long, that changing their minds is a jog on the treadmill.

i dont smoke pot, anymore. been almost 10 years since i stopped. with that being said, i see both sides of the argument. i think alchohol is far more dangerous to our society than weed. if anything, THAT should be illegal. but we all know what happened when that was attempted. i think it should be treated exactly how alchohol is treated. it has similar effects, but to a lesser degree.

as far as not causing cancer, i thought i read somewhere that the burning sensation of the smoke can cause cancer of the throat/lips/etc....just like smoking a cigar.

bill, a few years ago you'll remember that teenage girl who mowed down a bunch of juvenile delinquents that were cleaning up the I15 freeway (retarded to begin with) because she was so high. dont remeber if it was just marijuana or a combo of drugs....but it is possible, just like with alchohol. although, ive seen people do some amazingly coordinated sh*z while stoned

for the most part its a victimless crime and tons of $ is being wasted prosecuting people who use/sell it. our prisons are ridiculously overcrowded which leads to people who have committed far worse crimes being let out early.

Smoking ANYTHING is bad for you and can cause cancer. Marijuana is no exception. If that is of concern to a marijuana user, then they do not have to smoke it, it can be cooked properly with fats/oils and ingested. Vaporization, although still containing some carcinogens is a way to still 'smoke' it but lessen the chances of getting cancer from it. Water bongs, despite what some people think, do not lessen the amount of carcinogens at all, it just cools the smoke making it easier for one to take a big hit.

You dont seem to have anything to contribute to the thread. Stop trying to be a moderator, we were permitted to have this exact topic. If the thread gets locked, we'll all move on. Relax.

I have done some seriously coordinated shiz while stoned as well, but i don't think anyone will ever come to an agreement over how impaired you are or are not. I do think your average stoned person is more paranoid than anything and wouldn't speed or purposely drive erraticly. And you are able to focus more on what you're doing, though you might forget where you're headed.

I agree that it should be treated like alcohol. It's effects are better than alcohol. You never see someone stoned out of their mind picking fights or destroying stuff like a drunk person. I've never seen anyone smoke enough to not be able to walk under their own power, throw up, or die of poisoning. I've never seen anyone stoned enough to wake up and not remember where they are or how they got there either. If they did, they didn't smoke just weed.

I also think that for every medical study saying it's bad for you, there's one that says it's good. I know people who went from smoking cigarettes and weed to just weed and say they feel much better. I know people who have only smoked weed, and I mean like 1-2 blunts a day, and have no ill effects. One even has asthma. Before i started with the cigarettes, i don't recall any nasty side effects from smoking blunts, aside from the cotton mouth. Joints burn though. There was some study recently that showed some guy smoked weed for 20+ years and had no life threatening problems.

I think the main reason it won't be made legal anytime soon is because the government can't regulate it. Which means they can't tax it and make money off it. If it were legal everyone would be growing their own and it would be impossible to enforce any laws.

BUT, if you look at how clogged up our jails are with kids who got picked up for posession or trafficking it's absurd. Not to mention the hundreds of millions of tax dollars spend on the neverending "war on drugs." You could even argue that drug related crimes would decrease. People wouldn't get shot ofer their money, or for their stash by other dealers. I'm not saying crack should be legal, but I just don't see the harm in marijuana. I don't see the crime in someone sitting in their own house and smokin' a doob, and i will continue to do so as long as i see fit. Maybe one day the penalties will be reduced and there will be a peaceful coexistance with the law - like canada.

I often hear that but I don't think it would happen like that.
Granted marijuana is easier to grow, tobacco is legal and I don't grow my own. If marijuana was legal, I wouldn't bother with growing it, I'd just go down to the convience store and buy it. Being that it is so easy to grow, the tax should be able to be pretty high and the cost be the same or less than a pack of cigarettes. I think most people would buy the majority of it they use. And it would be just as possible to enforce laws as alcohol laws are (underage use,etc.).
