I am going to be working on led tail lights, I search a lot and found out the mystique tails have red plastic with a clear lens. I dont want to make "clear" lights so I do not need those. I couldnt find anything about pre-98 being the same design as post-98. Will the pre-98s fit on my 98 svt? The pre-98s are much easier to find, and cheaper then post 98.

Pre-98 lights will fit with no problem. They will not 100% match up to the center reflector though. The Pre-98 lights along the top just go straight across, while Post-98 rise up a tiny bit to line up with the beginning of the reflector. No one notices it though unless you point it out.

I have a Pre-98 trunk with Post-98 outers, and so far I'm the only one to notice until I point it out.

I wish I could tell you which lights would be your best option for the LED setup but I have no clue. This is a mod I've wanted to do myself also, just don't much time to research it and figure out what I need.

Thanks i will have to look into the pre-98s, but i like things to be perfect on my car. Do you have a pic showing how far they are off?

I will post everything i learn about the lights and the led conversion that way you research it in less time.

Pre-98s and 98+ taillights also have different brake patterns. Like Tony said - it's something people don't really notice unless you point it out.

I'll snap some close ups tonight when I get home from work but here is another picture of my car from farther away, just to get the idea.

You'll notice the top edge of the outter lights start to drift upwards a tiny bit, while the inners run straight across.

Pre-98 inner & 98+ outer. Notice the 98+ is "taller" where it meets the pre-98 inner at the top.

Also note the patterns are different. Two things things I couldn't stand so I went to the pre-98 outers.

Looking into L.E.D.'s. I used to buy from Auiotour, but I haven't heard from him. Anyone know if he is still selling LEDs.

The angle that the LEDs emits light is going to be a huge factor in this design. The brighter the MCD the smaller the viewing angle. Since I am going to use the lens on the tail lights does the viewing angle even matter that much since the lens distort and disperse the light?

Has anyone done this by making there own LED circuits instead of buying Pre made truck lights?

Found out the the pre made truck led brake lights are using 30 degree viewing angle.

from Greg at superbrightleds.com
"They use 30 degree viewing angle LEDs"
