I think you missed the point of my post. Apple doesn't make much money off of their operating system, but rather the computers they make for the OS to run on. Allowing the operating system to run on other manufacturers' computers ("clones" or not) kills a big source of revenue for them.
Granted it's not like it was in the 90s, since the iPod and iTMS now contribute greatly to their profits, but it is probably still significant enough that they would want to limit OSX for use on their machines only.
