yeah, but we're not talking clones anymore. OSX has already been compiled to x86, there's no reason it can't be made to run on any x86 computer, especially intel chips.

I think you missed the point of my post. Apple doesn't make much money off of their operating system, but rather the computers they make for the OS to run on. Allowing the operating system to run on other manufacturers' computers ("clones" or not) kills a big source of revenue for them.
Granted it's not like it was in the 90s, since the iPod and iTMS now contribute greatly to their profits, but it is probably still significant enough that they would want to limit OSX for use on their machines only.

my point is if they sold their operating system at or slightly below what microsoft sells windows for, they'd make more money because more people would buy it as opposed to just buying an entire mac, which is now just a regular pc.

Yeah, but there's probly less profit margin doing that, which is why they'd rather have you pay higher prices for their machines (compared to an equivalent PC) to get their OS.

True, but it would only be beneficial if they could get a big company (like Dell ) to have it preinstalled on new computers.
From what I've seen, most people just leave the OS that their computer came new with, which means if OSX wasn't preinstalled, their only base would be the people that want the features, but don't want to spend the extra $$$ on the Apple.
IMO, that's why Apple doesn't sell OSX to PC users... if they did, they wouldn't be able to sell computers like they do now (with the extra price).

Well looking at it... Apple is going to lose more money with it not being on PC's, I am seeing hacked versions and thinking of getting one for myself... So that's money Apple doesn't get because I am not paying $2,000 for a notebook with similar specs as mine. And my G3 B&W mac... That's antique.
