Tax revenues and freeing up jail space, as well as allowing police and courts to focus on more important things should be enough reason. There are also valid points that it would allow better research into the possible medical benefits on marijuana. Government regulation of the substance will certainly be better than buying it from some random street dealer. Keep in mind that based on what has occured in other countries (not third world ones rawburt), that marijuana use had not increased/increased significantly due to legalization. Suppose use did increase here, if it was a regulated substance and responsible use was promoted and irresponsible use severly punished, I don't see a significant amount of problems arising from that.
