Well to make a long story short, I was trying to take my windshield wipers off by prying and ended up cracking the windshield. A nice crack that starts at the bottom of the glass and 4 or 5 veins across the driver's view. Anyway, I was wondering what I should look for in a quality replacement. Should I go to a body shop or one of those mobile vans that can replace it while my car's parked (at work). How much should I be expecting to pay, etc. And if anyone knows of a quality shop in SE Michigan. Thanks. Andy

Mobile vans or body shops charge about the same price ( I think it was $325). I had a mobile van come out because it was more convenient. Oh and for my case, I was told that as it was caused by a rock (or the term was flying missile) when I was driving, insurance pays for the complete amount without a deductible and no increase in premiums. So I did not pay a penny.

Diamond Auto Glass is a pretty big chain, atleast around here. They did mine for 155, came to my house and took care of it. I actually saved 10 dollars, by showing them an add from another auto glass service.
I wouldn't take it to a body shop, because more than likely, they are going to call someone else to do it.
EDIT: I paid cash for mine, because I didn't have the car insured because I bought it w/ the cracked shield and it didn't run.

I do have comprehensive insurance, but in my case the car was sitting in the driveway and the cause was a dumbass wannabe mechanic . I don't suppose there's a chance they'll cover that?

They certainly will. It's covered regardless.
I had a 95 Mustang GT parked in the garage a few years back with a newly purchased picture window leaning against the wall next to it that was to be installed that weekend. Knocked it over right onto the new Mustang's front quarter....
Paid my deductible, insurance paid the rest.

Yes, check with insurance first. The state of Florida requires insurance to cover the cost of the windshield because a crack/chip/bullseye can obstruct vision.
Here in California, I called my insurance about a bullseye in my Sienna, they gave me a list of approved companies, and they said the company would bill insurance.

They should reguardless of how it happen, the hood flying up on me was technically my problem.. the hood hinge froze on mine causing the hood to no line up with the latch. I knew this but I didn't think the hood would fly up.. boy was I wrong
