Actually I was trying to fix my hood alignment when I cracked it. I was trying to pry the wipers off in order to remove the shroud so that I can get at the hinge mounting bolts. Well I pried a bit too hard. In the end I didn't feel I aligned it and could not figure out what exactly was wrong, but seems the driver side hinge was binding up as the hood opened. Is causing the hood edge to walk around and hit the fender and shroud. Sheared off one of the bolts, had to drill it out and replace the nut/bolt. Now you mentioned your hinge is seized and your hood popped up while driving scares me a bit.

I called my insurance and the good news is that it's covered. The bad news is that my deductible is $300. Cost of new windshield installed is $166 (at their contracted shop). Rather than trying to shop around, it sounded like it's in the right ballpark so I just had them install it while I was at work today. Worked out great. Thanks to all who helped.
