I dunno if you need 4 doors. You can get a Scion tC for about $16K if you don't get the SAB or add any of the dealer options.

I know it's only a 4cyl, but the power is similar to your 2.5L V6 Contour at about 160 for both peak HP and Torque

This is an auto but there are 5-speeds out there. S60 T-5. It has safety, (some) prestige, luxury, power etc etc.

Newer maximas are pretty decent as well, although depending on where you live the insurance can be stiff, they are one of the most stolen cars in NY, FWIW.
