So how do you usually detail your car, when, and what exactly do you use?

Me personally, I usually wash my car about once a month with some store bought cleaner. I used to use palmolive on my parents cars as a kid, but I just can't see that as being very good for it smile . Followed then by a nice coat of Zymol wax. Tires get dressing, and the inside gets leather clenaer and conditioner (Every once in a while), and armor-all to clean the rest of the stuff. Got a clay bar for those specs of paint on my car that aren't silver mad , and used it to remove the thick layer of cacked dirt on my car after 8 months of it sitting! eek I now swear by the clay bar, it owns you all!

I'll usually wash it on a saturday afternoon (I hate Sundays), particularly if it is sunny outside (Me pasty skin needs it). takes me about four hours to do everything (I take my time) so when I am almost finished the sun has already set. Then I'm ready to hit the town in my saucy car! And I always have my $20 Classic boombox blasting either trance or pink floyd for the whole time.

To the dismay of people I know I am not very talkative at all while washing my car, guess I'm just concentrating confused

Damn whitey white pasty skin boyz :p

I wash my car every other Sat, mid afternoon, use a car soap concentrate from my old job (car detailer). I wax once a month, tire dressing like 2 times a week. I used to use clay, but cant afford the stuff I want anymore! It takes me about 2-4 hours, but my girl helps sometimes and we do her car after mine (I wont let my car get sloppy seconds on water laugh )

I only clean my car the morning before a meet. Unless everybody makes fun of it, I might make sure the water spots are taken vare of. The last meet I actually did the most I have ever done.

I recently did the Meguiars 3 step process. I cleaned the car thoroughly with Palmolive soap. I then used the mothers claybar (very nice) and followed up with Meguiars clear coat body scrub. After that I used Meguiars step 2 deep crystal polish and finished up with gold class wax. I was very impressed to say the least. It wasn't great for producing a polished wet look like Zaino, but it was amazing in bringing out the metallic flake properties of my silver frost paint. My car was really reflective after using it. I am pretty satisfied, i think it does well in the california sun.

Other than that i just wash the car once a month or so. I apply leather cleaner/conditioner once every 6 months.

I wash my car every week. usually on saturday. I've paid to have it waxed a couple of times, and did it myself a couple times. By the way, those scrub brushes at do-it-yourself carwashes really do a nice job on the brake dust.
I want to hear more about this clay bar though. What is it, and how does it work?
Do tell!

Other claybar thread

I used the mothers clay bar kit (it comes with a bunch of other stuff i didn't want/need). The claybar removes all the contaminants etc from your paint and leaves a "glass like" finish. After using the claybar it is imperative that the car is polished/waxed.

Wash once a week (I don't go longer than two weeks if I happen to miss out on a weekend) w/ Zymol Clear auto bathe. I vacuum the interior once every two weeks, wax once a month with Zymol (The good stuff). I dust the car off daily (or every other day), same with the dash, and use Meguiar's Quik Detailer for daily touch-ups and cleaning, and Zymol 'field glaze' for finish touch-ups.
