I suspect the ball joint wasn't fully seated and you installed the pinch bolt over top of the ball joint pin. I just installed a control arm last weekend & had to encourage the ball joint into place with a little gentle help from an extra floor jack.
You gotta make sure the rubber dust boot gets good n squished under the knuckle. It's an easy mistake to make because even not fully seated, the boot rests against the knuckle so the ball joint LOOKS like it's in place, but really isn't.
