Finally, some good news coming out of Iraq. I didn't think the media had it in them to plaster up anything positive on the topic...

what's positive??

we killed some dude who was only there as a result of OUR invasion??

some other douchebag will be appointed, and we'll kill him - and so on, and so forth, until we are out of that wretched country - and osama is dead.

You're a complete and utter moron if you can't see that eradicating one of the most visible and important leaders of Al-Qaeda in Iraq is a good thing...

No, Hussein wasn't in cahoots with Al-Zarqawi or Al-Qaeda as ideologically they were completely different, even though their methods of exerting their will and power upon the population were VERY similar. Furthermore, Al-Zarqawi had been running in and out of Iraq before we attacked and Al-Qaeda did have some presence in Iraq in the Kurdish-controlled areas that Hussein couldn't keep under control. Were any of these the MAIN reason we invaded?

No.

Hussein flaunting his disdain over countless UN resolutions concerning WMD across a decade (which every intelligence agency on the planet said he had and was hiding) and our concern over what he could do with them pushed this administration and the majority of Congress and the House into voting to take pre-emptive action.

That's what lead to our invasion that was supported by the vast majority of the American public and our elected officials in office. The fact that the intel was dead-wrong is something that continues to haunt the reasons behind our aggression to this very day and has placed the US, Britian and our allies in a very compromising situation in that we made a mess (well, more of a mess) of the place on misinformation and we are now stuck doing the right but difficult thing of trying to ensure that Iraq doesn't become the Middle-Eastern equivalent of Somalia for decades to come.

It is a mess and will continue to be a mess for some time, but it will hopefully be less of a bloody mess now that one of the major ringleaders and one of his trusted lieutenants are now taking dirt-naps.

Yes, this IS good news for the Iraqi people and the allied troops that are there because it's proven that the insurgency is not untouchable and it's hopefully put a lot of fear and doubt within Al-Qaeda, which is perhaps the best thing that this has done.

There apparently are traitors in their midst and they know it for a fact now. This means they spend cycles and effort in rooting out the mole and not killing civilians and our troops. The best-case scenario is that they utterly shred themselves apart in Iraq because of the fear of each other...
