I have my car check up again cause of the engine light on and it show P0455, however, the guy in the autozone want me to make sure that my gas cap is close tie and not lose. However, i am reading the code right now for P0455 is : Leak Or Blockage Detected In Evaporative Emission Control System *EEC* i think. What is that? Does that mean I need to replace EEC system? just wonder. Do ya know where it is located at? Right now I just reseat the computer for right now, and there is no gas leak or anything under the car or any gas smell. also i put some gas treatment in it for right now to see if that will help. Please let me know what I need to do ASAP.

Thanks
David

You have a gross (vs a small - P0442) leak in the evaporative emissions system. The computer commands that a vacuum be pulled in the fuel tank, then measures the negative pressure in the tank to be sure that the vacuum is present, is correct, and that it holds. In the case of a large leak, it cannot pull a vacuum so the PCM sets the P0455 code. It also means that the test has failed on two consecutive test cycles.

The fuel cap is the only thing that a typical owner can access. Check to make certain it's tight. As least this AutoZoner got this right, heck, even a blind dog finds a bone occasionally.

Gas treatment will have no effect, much like chicken soup when you're ill. If the fault still exists, the CEL will come back eventually, anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

If this was the result of a state-mandated emissions check, they should have also tested your gas cap. If not, you can try swapping it.

If you determine that the problem is not the gas cap, your best recommendation to locate the repair is to hire a shop that has a smoke generator to locate the leak. Likely fault locations are the CV solenoid, canister, fuel tank filler grommet, one of the seals on the top of the tank, one of the many hoses in the system, the purge valve, or an electrical fault with the pressure sensor or one of the solenoids.

That caught me attention is that, if there is any leak or something, i should be able to smell it and see it on the ground right? I have not see or smell any gas leak at this point, so i guess it is fine right? I just resesal the gas cap carefully and turn the cap few more times after i heard the click. My gas run fine at this point, between 22 to 25 mpg, I guess maybe just the cap need to be tier.

Some times if it is a vacuum hose, you would not have gasoline leaking on the ground.

Yes, maybe the cap needs to be a little tighter. I usually let it go at least 3 "clicks" to be sure.

If the code shows up again later, then you can try the other suggestions (new cap, tests, etc.....)

Update:

I have double check the fuel tank and fuel filter area, it seens fine, nothing wrong and didn't smell any gas around hose. could that be the part that feed to the intake above the PCV valve that is not working? just wonder. I know I have only change my PCV valve once so far, but I am not sure if you really need to change it ever year or something. most of the time I just let the cap click once that's all. when I put some gas treatment yesterday and put some gas in, I did make sure that i heard at least 3 clicks before i close the gas door.

Let's wait and see if the code comes back. Try wiping the gas cap seal too (just in case some dust or dirt got on the seal and is preventing the cap from sealing properly).
