This post is to gauge the interest on the pre-98 consoles - this might be better under the classifieds, but technically I do not have them yet nor am I selling anything. However, I was curious as to how many people have troubles finding the pre-98 center console? I have found a good 6 or so consoles in good shape with all the parts needed. The few downsides are:
1. Most of them have broken or missing cupholders (easy enough fix).
2. They are not midnight blue in color, so they would need to be dyed one way or another (spray dye worked great for me in the past).
3. All have been from automatic cars so if you have a 5-speed you will need to come up with a shifter boot somehow.
I don't know if people have troubles finding them at all or if it is just the fact they don't come in the right colors. I would be happy to pull them as I see them if I know they are in demand, but right now I'm curious to see what everybody's take is on this.

I'm debating if I want to fix the broken one I got from tour96se, or just get a new one and start fresh. I dont care about the color. I will paint the plastic and get a leather cover from Redline for the center compartment.

So why does everyone decide to go pre-98 on this? The extra DIN and the fold out cup holder? Thats all I can really see thats diff.

It all depends on people's own opinions as to which is better. Lots of CEGers feel it's more aesthetically pleasing, whereas others go for the extra DIN slot. Personally I stay with the 98+ console solely for the usable cupholder that my SE had (the one on the left side .. SVT owners see me ) or the upgraded cupholders from the smoker's package and the 2000s.

persoanlly the pre98 console gives a more enclosed feeling, I just like the look and ahve been in my mystique since 00 and just like the feel and look, so I wanted that instead of the dead open space under the dash of the post 98s. The extra din slot is also handy to hold things like the radio remove and sunglasses, some have put gages there. also note the stock tape/cd combo had a tape deck and a separate cd player that was in teh second din location

For Us Tall Folk...I Like The Actual Ability To Put My Arm On the Armrest From The pre-98. My SVT Center Was great For The Cupholders (with Smokers Package) And That Was About It. The Only Thing I Don't Like About The Pre-98 Center Is The Odd Shaped Shift Boot. It's A Bit Humongous!!!
