There are more than two. I know LG, PixelWorks, and Toshiba all do. Same goes for LCD (once you go past the 19-22" range) there are only 4 manufacturers. So the name you buy means nothing. What you want to know is the grade of the panel itslef. Much like school, A is the best.
The signal processing that goes on around the panel is important too. Things like whether or not the TV has a comb filter for composite inputs and what quality it is (two-line, three-line, three-line adaptive, motion adaptive) can make a big difference in output.
A TV is more than its output device. I would never buy a plasma TV based solely on the quality of the panel.
