Well the time came to finally retire my Yamaha 2.1 PC speakers, they were good but they're finally gone. I want something that sounds pretty good and I don't want to spend much more than $150. I don't need DD decoders or any of that stuff. Just looking for something with some reasonably good sound in the typically small 5.1 package of PC speakers. I have a fairly high-end (IMO) HT connected for serious listening so it's mostly just games and some mp3's here and there. Right now I am looking at the logitech X-530 (seems like a steal at the price) and the Z5300e, but I'm pretty much open to anything that meets the criteria.

TIA

i currently have those logitech's on my computer, and haven't been disappointed in the 1.5~2 years they've been on.

Logitech or Creative are your best choices.

I run Creative on 2 computers. One is a 6.1 system and the other a 2.1. Both sound amazing. I have heard and sold many Logitech sets though and they are awesome sound quality and price.

i have a logitech z-5500 and it is simply amazing.. louder than you could possibly need.
My only complaints are the inputs are one optical, one digi coax, and the 3 mini plugs that make up surround sound, i wish it had a simple rca in. Also the sub is very loud and great for explosions while watching movies (great example in hollow man 2) but it sounds kind of sloppy sometimes when listening to music (still would give it a 8/10). My last complaint is my first sub blew, but then again i was intoxicated and playing it at like complete full volume.

if you can cough up $260ish you can find it on buy.com with free shipping (thats how i got it) and its worth the extra money

or get the logitech z-680's. Its the precursor of the z 5500s. I have the z680's and now adays you prolly can find them in your price range new. It has DD and DTS decoder and they are THX certified. Wireless remote, amazing bass. My roomate got the z 5500's after he was blown away by my 680's. I have to have the highest quality, and the 680's/5500's are top for the price.

680's are in almost all respects the same as the 5500's just $70 cheaper most places.

Boston Acoustic BA745 are good speakers. They have power/volume control, subwoofer control, a headphone receptacle and a microphone receptacle located on one of the speakers.

I paid $17 for a new set of new Boston Acoustic BA745 speakers

More than I want to spend, and quite frankly overkill. I appreciate the input though.
