Ok, I have a 98 CSVT and I have done some research regarding these two codes i keep getting. After the car is fully warmed up, the CEL comes on and when the A/C is on the car seems to idel funny, and sometimes die out. The problem seems to be less with A/C off. I have heard that the cats may be failing and a list of other problems. Then i have heard simply that the O2 sensors are bad. The P1151 code indicates bank 2 upper sensor is lean. This seems to be an easy fix. Maybe i should replace bank 1 upper sensor as well even though it is a pain to get to. If cats are going bad, will mileliminators help or just not trigger the CEL? I live in FL and during the winter, (60 degrees) the CEL never comes on. It seems the heat and humidity triggers these codes. Other than that, car drives fine with no loss of power. I currently have 73K miles on the car. I like the cheap and easy fixes first! Thanks...

couldn't really follow that post by skimming over it but if you have a O2 code with a pre-cat code replace the O2 sensor and the code for the pre-cat should go away

Yes, try replacing the Bank 2 Upper Sensor for the P1151 code.

As for the P0420, it comes back again, then try mileliminators for the Bank 1 Lower O2 sensor.

what exactly does the mileliminator do, in technical terms? also, i assume the bank 2 upper sensor is fairly easy to remove?

"what exactly does the mileliminator do, in technical terms?"

Sends a voltage signal to the PCM that reads the Pre-cats are working fine.

Also read this.

For a technical discussion, look for my posts in the Duratec Performance (or was it Maint??) forum from last winter. I described them in detail.

B2S1 is pretty easy to swap and will likely fix your P1151 code. It will have no effect on the P0420 code since 1) it's on the opposite bank and 2) upstream sensors are not responsible for cat efficiency codes (neither are downstream sensors, for that matter).

ok thanks, i may have to buy some mileliminators. I think they are around 30 bucks for the pair if i am not mistaken? as for the bank 2 upper 02 sensor, i couldnt find a how-to on that fix? it looks like there are some radiator hoses in the way. is it easier to go from the bottom? no way my hands are fitting down there.

I just replaced the Bank 2, upper CO2 sensor on my car. This has made a tremendous difference in the car. I ran it for about a half an hour without any problems. She idles like a dream without a CEL. If the P0420 code comes back I may try Berryman's B12 or the mileliminators. Oh by the way, you dont need an O2 socket for this fix, just a long handle 7/8" wrench. And YES, it can be done from underneath the car. This was the easiest way, taking only about 35 mins. If you had the oil filter off while changing the oil, this would make for some extra room. All in all, very easy and painless fix. Thanks guys!

what that tell you is you need to change the cat convert. and O2 sensor the same time. I did clean up before on the cat, but it only last for a little bit. the best way is to change a new cat convert and O2 sensor so it won't trigger the CEL.the eliminator will work for few miles, but you still will trigger teh CEL either way. trust me, i been there.

With mileliminators (installed correctly), you will not get P0420 (Bank 1 Precat) and P0430 (Bank 2 Precat) codes.

The other codes have nothing to do with the Precats, unless your precats are plugged or main cat is plugged. You might then get a P0401 or P402 because of the cat problem.
