AUS-6 is a good mid grade steel often used in knifes(which I think is what you are talking about) It is relatively easy to sharpen and has good edge holding abilities. Some of the better steels such as ATS-55 is a little more work to sharpen but it will hold the edge longer and is tougher over all. If you are looking at knife may I recommend Spyderco, Benchmade, Gerber, S.O.G., And Cold Steel all make very high quality knifes.
