Has anyone had to use this tool replacing tie rods or is there another method? (Taken from the Ford CD)

Tie Rod End - Outer

Removal

1. Raise and support vehicle. For additional information, refer to �«Section 100-02�».

�µ 2. Loosen the tie-rod end locknut and retaining nut.

1 Loosen the locknut.

2 Remove the retaining nut.

�µ 3. CAUTION:
When the tie-rod end is separated from the wheel knuckle the ball joint should be protected to prevent damage.

Using the special tool, release the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.

�µ 4. Note:
Make a note of the number of turns required to remove the tie-rod end.

Remove the tie-rod end and locknut.

1 Remove the tie-rod end.

2 Remove the tie-rod end locknut.


Installation

�µ 1. Note:
Make sure the tie-rod end is secured by the same number of turns used to remove it.

Note:
Install a new retaining nut.

Install the tie-rod end and locknut.

2. Check the toe adjustment. For additional information, refer to �«Section 204-00�».
