Oh I have plenty of faith in us, but remember the three asteroids that hit Jupiter? They were the size of the Earth. We never even would have known they existed if we hadn't caught them on tape just as they smashed into the planet. With the speed things move in space, you could have something errant the size of the earth headed our way and never know it was even there. Luckily for us we have the Sun, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus whose mass attacts pretty much everything that comes near us. It would be unlikely we'll be hit again for millions of years. Still though, when your number's up...
