the bushing was wore out to the point that there was a lot of play around the bushing and when the brakes were applied it turned the steering wheel a good quarter turn very violently. Then until the brakes were released the car would go straight with the steering wheel crooked. Once the brakes were no longer applied the wheel kicked back to normal position.

it had nothing to do with leaking fluid, but it seemed like a severe problem with either the brakes or the steering and after the brakes checked out fine i was going to turn to the steering until i figured this out. Just a thought
