Drink Gatorade, lots and lots of Gatorade. It's got a decent enough sodium count that it can take the place of the saltwater gargle, plus it'll help keep you nicely hydrated while your diet is all askew. Shakes and smoothies, basically anything you need to suck through a straw, can cause complications, so I don't recommend that. Get pudding packs, applesauce, and soft scrambled eggs for protein. I never got into the prescription meds...I think I was doing 600mg of Tylenol and 400-600mg of Advil 3 times a day for about a week, plus the antibiotics.
