My point originally was that 'Vette's are not cheap like Mustangs, yes, the GT500 is expensive, but what I didn't get was when you said Chevy had to provide affordable hi-po cars, but the only thing I see right now in Chevy's lineup that's hi-po like the Mustangs, or the GT500 is the Corvette, which is NOT affordable, it's not even close! Especially when for 10K less than a Z06 'Vette I could get a Lotus Exige with an LSD which will run 4.5 0-60, stock with the 4 cylinder Toyota engine in it running 190bhp, increase that even a little bit and you've got one heck of a performer for a lot less, one that pulls 1G on the skidpad!

The Shelby GT500 production numbers is an expected 8,000 units per year.

That is not at all limited. Don't expect values to increase significantly if at ll over the next 30yrs.

Cars as investments are really bad ideas. I would expect my cash to increase anywhere from 5.5-8% per year. Gonna be hard pressed to find a 2007 MY car that will incease by 5-8% per year.

$20K invested = $65K in 20 years assuming crappy investing.

Do you think this car will do this? Of course, you better not drive it.

Put that money in a rental property...

That's why I said "Collectors Car". I know a guy with a '69 GT500 fastback with 18,000 original miles on it, more than likely he paid less than 10K for it, now it's appraised in the 6 figures. Does he drive it? One or two weekends a year on bright nice days, but seriously, who drops that much on a daily driver? If you can afford to buy a GT500, I bet you can afford a daily driver.

Yeah, I understand your point. Before it sounded like you were trying to make the case that buying one of these for $20K over sticker made some kind of financial sense.

FORD isnt selling the car for said amount, its the dealers and theyre doing it because the market will bear it. at msrp the car is decently priced (a little pricey in my eyes) and without "Shelby" on the car it would probably fetch just that. with Shelby having one foot in the grave people know time is limited... if Ford keeps cranking these out for a few more years (while Shelby still alive) then they will be worth less (not to be confused with worthless ). say Shelby were to die this year, those cars will definitely be worth money. ROE kinda mondey?? probably not, but definitely wont depreciate like other typical cars. its a worthy investment as far as a car is concerned because you can buy for X amount of dollars, drive it for a few years, and then sell it for a pretty damn good % of what you paid for it, as opposed to a regular mustang. lets say only 8000 are made. im sure in 30-40 years those will be fetching BIG numbers at Barret Jackson. many will have been crashed/stolen/exported etc... then again, will the name Shelby mean as much 40 years from now?? as opposed to being just another badass cobra?

two of my friends are on the list at Galpin Ford. since Galpin is the largest volume dealer there is, they are getting a sizeable alotment of Shelbys. both of these guys are friends with the owner's son. supposedly Galpin will be getting 30 Shelbys (i dont know if at one time, or spread out) but has FOUR HUNDRED people on the list. supposedly they are going to take ALL these people into a large room and let them all bid on the cars. im willing to bet some of the last ones will get more than $20k over sticker. as one of the guys said, im a 24 year old kid. i can afford a Shelby cobra but how am i going to compete with a millionaire?

There's an ad in Autoweek that's been running for a while, where some dealership says if you buy a GT (not a Mustang GT, the GT) at MSRP, you can buy a Mustang GT500 for $10K over MSRP. What a deal. Clearly, these dealers are feeling confident, but I think it's going to bite them if GM and DC come out with production models of their "pony cars".

Within the next 3 months?

The dealers can do this because there's no other option for the market. Once the initial hype passes after 3 months or so they'll be selling for MSRP; so 3 years from now when the Camaro arrives, what dealers charged for a GT500 years ago will be a moot point.

Well, that's true.

But I just wonder if the response to the GT500 will be as strong as dealers seem to expect if buyers know that there are those alternatives on the horizon.

Alternatives like a Magnacharged GTO?

Yeah. Be like all Joe Gibbs edition and everything and make it a blown 4.8L. You guys are also forgetting about Nissan planning to introduce its Skyline GT-R over here, as well as that scary little Hyundai V8 Coupe that's supposed to come out some time in the future. The Camaro and Challenger will do their jobs, but I'm afraid they'll be entering a market that will soon be flooded with cars like them...Which is VERY good for the consumer, by the way. This upcharging of Mustangs doesn't seem to fly very well in my particular town however... I've seen the same row of Saleen and Roush Mustangs sitting out in front of my dealorship for five months now, not to mention the huge stock of "normal" 2005 Mustangs stagnating in the storage lot. Bucking the habit, the V6 model is the most popular down here...
