Not really surprising I guess. And once again, people are willing to pay it. Sheesh. Maybe Ford should price their limited edition stuff higher and pocket the profits themselves. Perhaps they should try some of their Euro goodies over here as well. It's obvious that people will pay for high end, limited edition, quality cars. I say bring over the RS Focus for starters.

Get your Shelby GT500 now.

Wow, that just ruins the Mustangs image of being something everyone can afford...

Guess it's up to Chevy AGAIN to provide the world with affordable performance....

But seriously, who would buy a Mustang Cobra instead of a Z06 and a Mustang GT? Stupid!

Wait....you say affordable, then you say Z06?!?! According to Chevy's website, the base Z06 is 65K, where's the affordable? And let's compare shall we? What will a Shelby GT500 be worth in 20 years? Now what will a Z06 be worth in the same amount of time? Oh yeah, a lot less. You need to get over this Chevy kick , yeah, the Z06 is a really really nice car, and yes, I would like to own one, but the GT500 is a collectors car, and is priced as such, so 20K over sticker will be nothing in 20 years, 'cause it'll be worth A LOT more.

$20K invested = $65K in 20 years assuming crappy investing.

Do you think this car will do this? Of course, you better not drive it.

Put that money in a rental property...

So wait, are trying to tell me that classic Mustangs have traditionally sold for more money than classic Corvettes? Since when?

Let's look at Ebay for some answers...

Here's an almost entirely undesirable(by Chevy fans)year model '78 Corvette. '78 Corvette auction

And here's a '78 Mustang II for comparison. Relatively similar condition. Mustang II

Ok so that wasn't fair.

Here's a real Mustang for comparison. Still not impressive resale value. '69 Mach 1 with a 390

Now, I'm not really seeing your argument as valid. If what you say is true, surely a '69 Mach 1 should be selling for more than a lowly '78 Corvette right? A real Corvette goes for something like this...

Check out the Buy it Now price on this baby... '67 Corvette

I rest my case...

That's why I said "Collectors Car". I know a guy with a '69 GT500 fastback with 18,000 original miles on it, more than likely he paid less than 10K for it, now it's appraised in the 6 figures. Does he drive it? One or two weekends a year on bright nice days, but seriously, who drops that much on a daily driver? If you can afford to buy a GT500, I bet you can afford a daily driver.

Yeah, old corvettes that you couldn't see at least 80 of a day, everyone and their mother seems to have a corvette, which is also true of a Mustang, but tell me how many of the GT500's are being produced as opposed to the Z06's production numbers? If the Z06 has less production numbers than the GT500, then yeah, I'll agree with you, but I'm almost 100% sure they are higher.

I rest my case.

EDIT: BTW, if you look at that '78 corvette, there are zero bids on it, even though it does have 9 days left, check the end of the auction, plus it's an anniversary edition, definitely lower production numbers, more rare. The '78 Mustang is a 6 cylinder auto with 107K on it, you're right, that's not a real mustang. The '69 Mach 1 has almost a week left for bidding, give it time, also it has almost 3K miles on it. The '67 corvette is a classic and the price again reflects the fact that in 20 years, if the mileage is kept down, it'd be a good investment at it's price right now, but also note that it only has 400 miles on it.

How many 20-35 year old people do you see driving Vette's? The only people I see driving Vette's in Las Vegas are all over 45, or they are a stripper/prostitue. But yes I see every age dricing Mustangs.

Besides, the 'Stang has a rear seat so you can at least drag along some friends if needed. And if it was not for the dealer mark-up, this thing is certainly a bargain compared to the Z06.

Just wait for the GT500KR coming in 2008, supposed to be 550+ HP in that one.

One of my good friends has a '98 Vette. he's 22. Around here, Mustangs are about as common as SUVs and trucks. You literally see one every minute on the road. Corvettes, not so much. Now I'm not saying that the GT500 isn't a nice toy and all, just too expensive for Mustang blood, and I think you probably will agree with me on that. There is NO reason a non-special edition production model Mustang should sell for more than the highest trim level Corvette available. This would be like Dodge selling a $40K Neon SRT-4 or Chevy selling a $60K Camaro SS. To tell the truth, the Mustang just isn't supposed to be a high-dollar car.
