Is it the solution to everyone's problems? No. But at least I applaud it for being a step in the right direction. 370 miles should just be the start. We need to stem the tide, and then turn off the faucet altogether. If the 370 miles forces them to more treacherous terrain to cross over, then maybe it deters a few of them. Then once the 370 miles is up, there'd better be plans to extend it the full length over time.

The chupacabra idea, while tempting, may not work. Looks and sounds too much like a chihuahua.

It's pointless to even bother unless you're going to do it right. It's one more worthless expenditure of this administration.

You're right though, this is psychological more than physical. It's a complete pander to a portion of the country that believes we need a fence even though a small portion won't actually do a thing.

It sends a message of "Hey, look fellow Republicans! I'm doing something" to people in this country. And a message of "Hey, illegals, we're trying to look like we're doing something to keep you out. So, psst, don't cross right here, go down a few miles and cross there" to the illegals trying to get in.

Bingo; this is yet another half-assed measure brought to you by the US Congress. It's like fighting a fire with a damn water-pistol. My senator will be getting a letter from me on what a waste of taxpayer money this plan is...

Yes, we need a fence, but we need a REAL fence that runs the distance of the border and will be properly patrolled. This just smacks of appeasement and political ass-kissing.

How hard and expensive is it to load Humvee's up with coils of razor-wire and lay the stuff down in a 1/8th mile thick patch all along the border?

Screw a wall; I want an "el cheapo" DMZ.

We don't need a fence, we need a 10-20ft tall concrete wall with automated SeaWhiz guns on it.

Yeah, because they really deserve to be shot?

Certainly not.

Would you shoot someone if they broke into your home? I sure as hell would. And that is what is happening. Softies such as yourself justs can't bring yourself to that type of rationalize.

Because it's anything but "rational".

If illegal entry is illegal entry, does that mean stealing a piece of candy is the same as stealing a car?

There are different levels of the same type of crime. One can argue that illegals impact you financially, but certainly not to the same degree as someone breaking into your home and certainly not the same psychological trauma.

It's the difference between shooting someone who broke into your home and shooting someone that's trespassing on your land. They both might be illegal, and there's even a small number of people that would agree with both actions, but the number of people who are fine with shooting someone that broke into your house is significantly larger than the number of people that condone shooting trespassers. Believing in one does not necessitate the belief in the other.

Yeah, remember a few months back when that cranky old bastard shot and killed the kid that kept walking across his yard?

Granted, I know the SeaWhiz gun statement was probably at least a little tongue-in-cheek, but shooting to kill is definitely overkill ( pun intended ), now, shooting to maim.......

And that type of attitude is exactly why 3 million keep crossing the border, and will continue. Until Americans put their foot down, Vincente Fox and Co. will continue to flow across our borders.
