Should have been clearer, sorry. They kept the ice in a big bag, then placed the bag on the intake mainifold once the motor was off. Once they got ready to run again, they removed the bag of ice/water. These were mostly V-8's doing it. I've never tried it on my car, it's not a drag strip terror anyway, so a bag of ice won't let me run 10's.
