I think kalecoauto.com has stuff about this... Might want to check it out. Pretty informative site.

Thank you soooo much for posting that website. FINALLY one place that has all the harder to find items you need. Muffler bearings, FULLY SYNTHETIC blinker fluid, flux capacitors (really good price too), AWD Conversion kits, etc. LOVE IT !

You could pack it around the outside of the air box if you really think it will make a difference in performance.

I think Eelco made an air-intake box in the early '70s that utilized either dry-ice or plain ice cubes. I remembered seeing it in an old issue of Hot Rod.

In all seriousness, I remember seeing lots of people at the drag strip using ice to cool their intake mainifolds between runs, and if it didn't melt, it would work to cool the air charge thru the intake. But two things work against it. 1. It would melt rather quickly. 2. I don't know if the benefits would outweigh the added weight of the ice. Just my opinion.

It seems like ice would melt really fast next to a hot engine, and dumping cold water on a hot engine is never a good thing...

Should have been clearer, sorry. They kept the ice in a big bag, then placed the bag on the intake mainifold once the motor was off. Once they got ready to run again, they removed the bag of ice/water. These were mostly V-8's doing it. I've never tried it on my car, it's not a drag strip terror anyway, so a bag of ice won't let me run 10's.

Yes, this was done in the old days to cool off hot engines between/before runs. I don't recall tales of broken blocks and manifolds from ice damage. But a pile of ice to cool multiple cubic feet of intake air while the vehicle is moving? Too much weight of ice to be carried to get much air temp drop benefit. Yes, doing an intercooler to drop the temp of compressed air down toward normal uncompressed outdoor temp can be done without much weight. But to actively drop the temp of intake air to BELOW normal outdoor temp? That's refridgeration, and that's heavy.
