The night shots are real. They are very similar to what the NOAA produces. They likely are NOAA's Pictures. I knew the guy that did the composites.

The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

No, I'm pretty sure he says "Yes, I know the "Night arrives over Europe and Northern Africa" is a fake, however it is still cool," and that the 4th picture has the title "Night arrives over Europe and Northern Africa," and is NOT the picture that is the combo picture.
"Moore has also accused the American people of being the stupidest, most naive people on the face of the Earth. And after last weekend, he's got the box office numbers to prove it!"

the hell it's not! i've had that exact "combo" picture as my desktop for months now, and quite some time ago it was debunked as two pictures merged into one.

A satellite in low earth orbit (LEO) circles the globe roughly every ninety minutes. Since you'll only get a good night shot with the earth between the satellite and the sun, then as long as the shots were taken fairly close together (and not months apart) you'll always be facing the same stars regardless of the rotation of the earth below. You would only have star movement with a geosynchronous satellite that remains in a fixed position above the earth and rotates with it (but then you wouldn't have shots of different sides of the planet).
I think the full night shots are real, but possibly enhanced for more contrast and definition.
Sorry Hydramatic.... I WIN!

http://www.snopes.com/photos/sunset.asp"Although this image does accurately depict the landforms described and the positioning of lighted cities to the right of the day-night terminator line, it doesn't represent an actual Earth view one might see from space. This photograph is a digital composite formed by merging multiple images from different sources (primarily satellites), the same technique used to create the stunning iceberg photograph."
