This statement does not make sense. If you are at fault, your insurance may go up. If you file a claim (above the threshold set by your insurance) on your own insurance, your insurance may go up. How can your insurance go up if the police report says you are not at fault (and you do not file a claim with your own insurance company)?
Maybe those who work in the insurance industry can explain better.

If you get a police report there is more of a chance your insurance will go up because if a claim is filed by the other driver then your insurance company will check the police record and then they will see the police report. Thats just a glimpse of my experinces with the crooks I mean insurance companys. Good luck!
Completely disregard that statement.
I had a similar accident only my friend's brother was backing up and hit my car while parked in their driveway. I know, a little different because he was actually in the vehicle. Their insurance took care of everything, including contacting my insurance company to let them know of their at-fault client. My rates did not go up a penny and neither should yours, unless you have a really chitty provider.
Most of that has been covered, just thought I would tell my sitcheeashun.

Depends on you insurance though, sometimes your rates won't go up as long as you're not anymore then 50% liable for the accident, I doubt they would up it for a 20/80 fault, but as you said the insurance companies are crooks
