What does a 3000sf house go for in that area, just curious to see it against the Vegas market.

That is a nice house. I bought mine 3 years ago, just before I adopted my first son. Since then we adopted his brother, and the Wife and I had a son last July.

Now my 2150sf 3 br, 2 1/2 bath is feeling pretty tight. I may buy something new or add-on about 900sf to the second floor.

It's Friday, so get working on making them kids
or least practice.

According to Zillow.com, average price for a Commerce Township, MI home is $235K. Homes in that town with similar features to APT's are advertised at $300-$350K though.

Makes me sad that our 1960s 1250sqft home is going for that much. (Our neighborhood values skyrocketed with an interchange put in town in 2002; now very desirable land for the Boston commuters.)

Though it's not as bad as one of my friends. His parents sold their house in Laguna Beach (CA) for ~$300K several years ago and it's now worth over 1.5mil.

I just changed my profile. I'm in the NW corner of Commerce, next to Milford, White Lake, and Highland. Built in 1997. I work in Livonia and my wife in Auburn hills. Something in the middle would be Southfield, but we didn't want to live there. Northern Farmington hills and West Bloomfield would have been great, but the type of house and amount of land we wanted couldn't be had in our price range. We traded those features for a slightly longer commute. Mark, if you want more details, PM.

I gew up on 10 acres of land and wanted more than postage stamp lots for my kids to grow up on. I also didn't like living 10 feet from my neighbor's house My ideal would be about 3 acres.

I have a large family, 5 brothers and sisters with 3 married with kids, my neices and nephews mostly within an hour's drive. My wife has 4 younger sisters, although none married or kids yet. To host family gatherings, we wanted a floorpan set up for entertaining. 3000sf is more than we need, but the lot is what sold us. The house met our minimum criteria and is in our price range which I could have never dreamed about. Also, we had the baby andher stuff along with another adult move into our house so 4 bedrooms was a requirement. It wasn't a matter of need. We are blessed to live beneath our means for the most part. We can afford the house, so we'll take it even if we don't use every square foot. There are plenty of fancier homes around, albiet on smaller lots or costing lots more.

Zillow says our house is worth about $400k, that's a little high. This house was originally listed at $390k, but lowered some before we saw it, and then we offered even lower becuase we were not contingent on selling our prior house and the sellers had another house built and ready to move in. (Wow, longest run-on sentence I've ever written.) Metro Detroit is a buyer's market right now with prices falling for the $300-500k range. Since we upgraded, our dollars went a little farther than 2 years ago.

Bill J, congrats on the children! That's a quick way to start a family.

Awesome house Aaron! Defenetly a smart move to switch priorities and pick up a really nice place like that. You can always build a giant garage with a lift and buy new toys down the road. Congrats on the new shed!

Thanks Aaron. I wasn't looking for specifics, just a general location. Built in '97 is much newer compared to my '67.

Enjoy it! One question - lawn tractor or Lawn Service? LOL...

Congrats again.

Mark

PS. Zillow is cool! I hadn't seen it until today; here in this thread and on Nightline.

Definitely agreed that it makes sense to buy in the things hard to upgrade like vaulted ceilings and railings. Cabinets land in the middle, just because they are very pricey to upgrade. Flooring, fixtures, appliances... definitely easy to upgrade.

Besides Zillow, there's also www.homegain.com that has similar information.

I'll do the lawn myself. I'm picking up one of these commercial walk behind mowers next week. Should take about 45 minutes to cut.

I definitely agree on the mower choice. I personally dislike lawn tractors (more of a annoyance than a convenience). I also like the T-bar more than the pistol grips.

Dunno... for a lawn tractor this would be nice

http://www.bobcatturf.com/products/ztm/220es/index.html

My aunt has one of those for her house, she has 6 Acres of land, takes about 1 and a half hours to cut it all.

I personally like lawn tractors, but this one is nice because you don't need a steering wheel to control the system, so it turns easier.

Nice house though!
