Recruiters... don't get me started. Oh, well, too late.
There are those that don't even read your resume. Such is the situation you stated. Then there are those that creatively interpret your skill set: "Hmm. Your resume says that you support clustered servers running Oracle RAC. You must be a DBA! Let me send you 17 DBA postings!" And then, there are those that creatively interpret the posting requirements: "Hi there. I have a position for a Sun Spark Admin. Do you have a background heavy in PEARL? You will need to be Microsoft certified, will this be a problem?"
I post my resume in two flavors: pdf and ASCII text. I've shot down two postings because the recruiter DEMANDED that my resume be in "Word" format.
Grrr...
