So, I have until October to decide, but if I start lookign now, maybe I can stumble across a good deal. I have seen some people say to get a a swiss army knife, leatehrman tools (Gerber) mugs, and random other stuff. I don't want to get something that is too nice to use or will be put away and forgotten about. I want something useful. So I guess I am looking for ideas. What have you received? What have you given? Do you buy stuff or your Ushers too? I guess I am thinking about $30-50 per person. Thanks!

When I stood up in my brother's wedding he gave his groom men Watermen pen's.
Last summer I stood up in my friend's wedding and he have his groom men Detroit Lion's tickets, which I thought was cool.
Just a couple examples that you may find useful, oh and imo you should buy usher's a gift.

I was a groomsman in a wedding recently and we got pocketwatches with our names and the date of the wedding engraved on them.
It wasn't something I would have bought myself, but I really liked it.

I've received crap (flasks and the like). For my wedding we tailored each gift to the groomsman.
One got a Redskins pullover (big Skins fan), Another got a Northeastern hockey jersey (his alma mater), Another got the Pats Super Bowl victories on DVD, and my brothers-in-law got beer of the month club subscriptions for 3 months each.

Definitely include the ushers. They are a part of the wedding party. However, I think $30-$50 a person is a bit extravagant.
I received a clock form one wedding and a sweatshirt from the wedding venue for another. Nobody griped in either case.

For my brother's wedding I recieved a stainless steel flask (or is it pewter?) with my name engraved in it- "Silly Billy" Yeah, go ahead and laugh, but that was the "codename" given to me by him and his friends when we were younger

for one wedding i got a whine goblet (or wtf it is, dont even know what happened to it) an engraved glass beer mug would be kinda cool. one that was better than average.. subsription to fhm or stuff... nice pens (waterman example is good) useable stuff, not crap to be lost/forgotten. hookers and blow are always nice too

I bash the French like mad on just about everything, but there's a group of them that make some of the best dress knifes for the money... http://www.laguiole-elite.com/laguiole_elite.htmI've actually visited one of their factories in Thiers; they still make a fair amount of their product by hand and it's quality work to boot. Corkscrews and base knives start around $50 and are excellent for the money; on top of that, you don't find too many folks running around with their products. I had a damascus and fossilized mammoth tusk piece commissioned for my father's 60th birthday and own a few of their cheaper models, in addition to giving a few away as gifts, so from top to the bottom end of their product line, they make good equipment that gives a personal touch to any gift.
