"Only the face and tail changed." Of course they did, and that's why the earlies and lates look so different.
If you're saying that's the only thing that changed, you're wrong, as there were changes to the suspension, transmission, interior, etc. as well as general feature content.
Otherwise, maybe I just misread your post, and don't get where you're coming from.
