Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently bought a 73 Honda CB350G, and went to get it registered and stuff at the DMV, but their bluebook doesn't go back far enough, so they don't know what to charge me for sales tax. So, I can't get the bike registered until I get a blue book appraisal on it ( or pay a mechanic to appraise it. ) I've googled a little bit, but haven't found anything that goes back to 73. Anyone got any ideas?

strange... i had no problem with my 69 or 71 caddy. or my 63 wagon. the registry had the blue book on them. but then agin, those are cars, not a bike.

That's weird. Here you pay sales tax on what you paid for an item (minus any trade-in equity), not tax on some generic blue-book value. Eh, diff'ernt strokes for diff'ernt states.

yeah that seems weird. Did you perhaps mean to say "registration fees" not "sales tax"?
Either way, I don't have a clue how to help.

seems weird to me too. when i bought cars in ny i always paid tax on what i paid. maybe they need a number independent of what i paid for it, so they can make sure i'm not trying to rip them off, saying i paid way less for it than i actually did. in any case, i can't get the bike registered until i get a blue book or it appraised. really pisses me off - i have to pay a mechanic just so i can pay tax on something that was already taxed at least once, when it was new.

not weird at all. in mass you pay sales tax based on book value when the vehicle is purchased thru a private sale. you pay sales tax on purchase price when purchased thru a dealer.
