My subscription to Norton expired the other day, and I am thinking of switching to something else. I have had good luck with Norton, but it seems every year it becomes more bloated, but doesn't appear to do much more. Cost isn't an issue, and I am looking for something that works well (realtime scanning, e-mail scanning) but is pretty light on resources.

-The enterprise version of Norton sounds good (less of the pretty GUI so it's lighter on resources but just as effective). I think you have to buy at least 10 copies though.
-AVG gets alot of praise, although it doesn't seem to be as effective in detection judging from independent tests. It is free which is nice, but the lower performance scares me.

Don't know where else to go from here. I want to claim some of my RAM back from Norton.

If you pay for AVG you do get a better program. It's like $25 for 2 years. I've had good luck with them and when something doesn't work they've been much easier to reach then Norton or McAffee in my experience with either of them. AVG actually helped me out with taking care of a trojan last year. Most of my gaming clan uses AVG as it's very unintrusive and doesn't slow your system down, yet is fairly affective at getting stuff. However there are always new virus' out there so not even the most up to date software will protect you from everything.

McAfee but only because my school gave it to me for free. It hides in the background .. actually most of the time I just have it disabled.

Never really had a problem with viruses.

On my comp, I use F-Secure. It's okay. It eliminated a serious virus problem a while ago (which occured conveniently when CrapAfee crapped out on me.

who's your ISP?? seems like everyone is giving away some sort of antivirus nowadays. RR gives you EZ armor. However, I don't use anything on my personal computer.I'm too much of a resource nazi.

I use NAV 2003, free as many time as I want to use it and doesn't slow down my system.

I have tested 04, 05, and 06 and can't stand them. I might as well have viruses with the speed my computers run at with those versions installed.

Honestly, I might just leave protection out completely next time I reload my systems. Never had a problem with viruses and if I did, I would want to clean it up by reinstalling the OS anyways.
