Recently, Carpepoon and I have been PMing back and forth to decide the best bass set up for me. He talked me in to getting a rear deck sub and I think I would like to get an 8" subwoofer to do the job. My question is, I have a Pioneer GM-X722 amplifier and an Alpine CDA-9811 Head Unit. What sub driver should i get that would be most compatible to the amplifier. So far, i've looked at
MTX
MTX Audio Thunder5500 T5508-04 MTX Audio Thunder5500 T5508-44
and a kicker model, can't remember exact model number, CMB8?
And for those using eDead for their sound damping, how do you like it? What have you used it on? and which version did you use where?
Last question...would it be worth it to use my 4 channel legacy amplifier 4X100 MAX, not sure rms, to power the speakers also? is it possible? would the signal from the head unit be strong enough and how would one go about wiring that if it were/could be done?
Thanks in advance for replys.

Josh, sorry I've been slacking on the PM's. I only get a couple chances to check my computer durring the day for purposes other than work when I'm not out in the field. I guess since this is now a post I'll just post here as well. The kicker speakers you posted in the PM are actually mid-bass drivers, not subwoofers. Any subwoofer will work in a rear deck free-air invironment but when a sub is mounted free air it only requires about 1/4 the power it would typically require if it were in an enclosure.. so you will have to be careful when setting the gain on your amp.
Certain subs are better than others... I'll let the techinical gurus chime in here to let you the specifics of what you should look for.
as for the last question, you have 3 sets of RCA pre-outs on your headunit CDA 9811 correct?. front/rear and sub.. your 4 channel amp would hook up to your front/rear outputs while your sub amplifier would hook up to the sub pre-out.. so you would just need 3 sets of RCA cables... no weak signal worries.

so the MTX Audio Thunder5500 T5508-04 would be a good subwoofer match for the amplifier i would like to use...Pioneer GM-X722? And would i just run one remote wire back from the head unit for 2 amplifiers?

the mtx 8" 4500 4ohm model is just fine for a free air rear deck sub. you dont want more than that unless you want to tear the whole rear deck apart to put in support and sound deadening material. as far as the amp i dont know the output of it so it may be to much for the sub but if you want the most power bridge the 2 channels together- posiitive from ch.1 and negative from ch.2. find out the output of your amp before you hook all this up as the mtx 8 only needs 100-150 watts to be optimal
