I just got my '95 4cyl contour and its in great shape but man I cannot believe that there is no way to get around this fuel pump switch thing. Hopefuly I am missing something.
The car has keyless entry. If I enter the car by unlocking the doors (whether they are already unlocked does not matter) using the keyless remote, I am able to then start the car like its a normal car. But in ALL other circumstances (i.e. keys are left in the car since its in my garage, or use the key to unlock the door, or door is already unlocked so no need to use the keyless) the ONLY way to start it is to push in the fuel pump shut off switch while turning the key. Is it possible that this is the design and there is no way to disable this "feature" of how to start it? Thanks for any input.

It means that whomever installed the remote start did a poor job! The fuel cut off switch is an excellent feature and doesn't interfere with anything. I know If I rolled a car I wouldn't want fuel spraying around me.

What remote entry feature do you have? It is probably not Ford Factory OEM. I wonder if you have an aftermarket remote entry feature which disables the fuel pump circuit when in the "armed" mode.

I am looking on the net for pics of this particular remote and cannot find any. But it does look like its from Ford.
The front side of the remote has two buttons, LOCK and UNLOCK, also the Ford script logo underneath. And that's it.
The back side says
Battery replacement i2v gp23a or equity
MADE IN USA
FCC: GOH-MM6-101880 DOC: I408 K79I
I am probably getting the back wrong since it is small and hard to read. Also, the remote is all black.

Even if its a Ford system, its possible it was dealer installed. After having three different mechanics at three different Ford dealerships tell me that they hate working on electrical, I wouldn't trust anything dealer installed that had even a single wire associated with it.

You effectively avoided sugar coating, but unfortunately were unhelpful though demonstrative (speaking of being a girl)
Do not reply again to this post as there are others here willing to help which is the whole idea in the first place.
My bet is you are under 25. Read more and write less.
