Not wearing hearing protection anytime you fire a firearm is stupid. Even when firing a .22, it's very important. Your ears are sensitive instruments that degrade with use, and the more high-volume sounds you hear, the sooner they wear out. I ALWAYS wear plugs AND muffs when shooting.
