Most people that get shot in a home or office are shot with their own gun. Some one that is not trained does not have the instinct it kill. It has to be learned and going to a range and shooting paper that does not fire back is not the way to learn. You need to go to a combat range and learn to shot under pressure when the adrenalin is flowing before your life is in the balanence. I know all the John Wayne types on here are going to get their feelings hurt but better that then dead. I am ex-military and a firearms instructer (with over 20 years experience), I have seen people that look like Clint at a range when everything is normal but you run them around and put the preasure on and they cannot hit the broad side of a barn. Let me also say that there were alot of name brand and expencive handguns talked about and they are all good guns. The bottom line though is a .22 mag will punch threw a bullet proof vest were a .380, 9mm, .40 and .45 will not.

As a test for the guys that think they are John Wayne, the next time you go to shoot, first run around the range a few times and I mean run as fast as you can, then do 30 jumping jacks, 30 pushups, do not wear hearing protection and have a couple of your buddies yelling in your ears while you shoot. If you can hit the target with a full clip you just might be able to save yourself. What the excercises do is simulate shooting under stress. Also remember the kill shot is normaly the first shot not the last shot.

Wow, good advice, a bat or golf club versus a pistol. Instead of preaching how much better you are than everyone else because you have 20 years of experience, maybe you should give them some helpful advice about where to go to get the training that could save their life instead of tearing everyone down in a blanket statement.

You must have been a great firearms instructor.

Jato, I see what you posted, but I thought he was right that they did carry them, the .45 version I think?

I have entirely no clue, but from the miniscule reading I've managed to grab off the Web says that the standard-size Desert Eagles are not used. Period.

Honestly, I would be absolutely amazed if anyone interested in self-preservation chose to carry one of these behemoths as a combat-duty sidearm...

There's a gun apparently branded the "Baby Eagle", but has a completely different frame and build vs. the standard Desert Eagles.

EDIT: Jericho 941 is what it's called; some models have the "Desert Eagle" brand stamped on it in the attemps to market the name:

Maybe someone that knows military firearms will chime in (as I do NOT for the most part); I'm simply yanking what I can find off of the Web and plastering it up here.

they carry the "baby eagle", which is a totally unrelated gun to the DE. the only reason it has the eagle in it's name is for marketing in the US.

The Eagle was an Israeli Military pistol. But, like the MK23 for the US Special Forces, it was deemed too large and too unreliable to be useful.

Not all DE's are the large frame .50 cal from Snatch. The 9mm version is tiny in comparison.

Yup. The .50 Desert Eagle wasn't the ONLY Desert Eagle. The Desert Eagle was chambered in .357mag , .44mag, and the famous .50 AE round. There were a number of replicas and look alikes(aka baby eagles) that shoot smaller rounds.

They all did the same thing...got jammed when encountering sand...they are a good conversation piece...and a good way to get attention at the range...but as useless in a carry/combat situation as a .500SW Longbarrel.....sorry...

.45ACP and a 9MM CZ is what I carried in Desert Storm....

Exactly. The Desert Eagle requires immaculate care for proper functioning, something that just isn't practical on the battlefield. The Israeli Policemen HAVE been seen with them from time to time in old middle east conflict videos IIRC. Might have been babys, but who knows. I need to dig up an old video...

*after edit*

OK here we go. I'm pretty sure they were Baby Eagles now.

No matter what caliber (.357, .44, or .50), the standard Desert Eagle is just too large and bulky to be a "working gun"; now the Jericho that was subsequently branded and resold by Desert Eagle looks to be a more promising candidate, but this is honestly the first time I've ever heard of one.

That doesn't mean squat, since most of the folks I shoot around with are Colt, Sig, Glock, Wilson Combat, Beretta, HK or Kimber fools. I see the occasional Ruger and Smith, but I rarely see or shoot many other pistols outside of the ones I've mentioned. Every now and then someone shows up with a wacky wheel gun (ever heard of a .454 Casull?) or wild-ass auto (.357 Coonan?), but it's few and far between...

Anything that can handle a .44 or .50 round and has a clip on it is a glorified carbine that needs a rifle butt stuck on the end of it and a longer barrel.
