I dremmeled mine out. Took some time and made a HUGE mess with all the little plastic sawdust turds. I permanently glued the two halves together and am in the process of filling/sanding. Then I'll mount the mesh to the very back. The cut out part of the grill isn't going to be smooth, so if you leave it showing you'll need to fill. I decided against sandwiching the mesh between the two halves of the grill because I like the deep look on mine. I'll post pics when it's done.
