You think? Given the Contour's reliability history you'd think he would have seen at least one in the service bay at any given point.

yeah, because salesmen spend all their time in service?

That's a top-notch approach that ensures you'll get quality service... the Condescending A-Hole Routine.

So he didn't know what an SVT Contour is/was... big f**king deal.

back when i first got the car (and was a newb on here) i went to a dealership to get a remote... they had to special order it... when it came in, they couldnt figure out how to program it. they told me i had to come back the next day so that their shop could program it with a special computer... i never went back, ordered a remote online (for half what the stealership wanted) and programmed it in 30 seconds.

Ok, fair enough not knowing about a 6 year old car - he doesnt work in service and is proably only trained in NEW stock

BUT

He should know the HP of the new Mustang, along with other features OR know where to get the info (try: "Look, i'm not sure, hang a a few seconds whilst i go and grab the brochure")

it doesnt suprise me he didnt know what a contour was, my mom still doesnt know what it is and she used to see it everday. (my father has no idea either). the name alone doesnt even ring a bell with most people. they know escort, mustang, gt, focus, explorer etc... cuz those are the cars that are plastered all over the boob tube and everyone knows someone who has one or has had one.

as mentioned, most car salesmen have not been at the same dealership for very long and probably havent been selling cars very long either. i wouldnt expect him to know anything about the contour, the csvt, or especially the SHO. now the 05/06 mustang on the other hand thats a different story. i wouldnt expect him to know hp numbers on the 500 cuz how many people really ask.... but on a mustang?!?! that's like not knowing what differentiates the standard stang from the GT. these are BASIC things that every FOrd salesman should know cuz its what most stang customers will ask just like it would be a wise idea to know what mpg the expedition gets, or all Fords at this point in time.

here at our local Ford behemoth dealership they have the trucks on a seperate lot with seperate salespeople. i would shudder to think what would happen if a guy came in looking for a new work truck and the salesman didnt know the towing/payload capacity or mpg

...and if he was a 'younger guy"...the car could've been out of production 2 years before he ever got his driving permit.

As a fourteen-year-old once in my life, I would have never given a contour a second glance as a possible vehicle of choice when I turned 16, so what the heck would I care to know about it?

You'd be surprised at how many people don't understand that. The only 2 departments that work remotely together are parts and service. Other than that, one department doesn't give a sh!t about the other. I had to explain to my Grandpa that the Ford service department wasn't going to tell him to trade his Lincoln in when they knew he had a blown headgasket. They wanted his business in the SERVICE DEPARTMENT! If Ford sells a ton of cars one year, but nobody comes in for service, those techs don't make any money. It's not just a big account that all incoming money goes into at dealerships.
