So many people I know, knew I drove a SVT Contour, and have heard of SVT before but....never had a clue what it meant.

They see the SVT license plate from on the rear of my car and see Special Vehicle Team, then you hear "Holy sh*t, that's what it means!?!?!"

I expect that when I walk into a dealership that I know more about the cars than the salesperson. However, if they don't know something they should be more than willing to look it up and find out for you.

IMO, knowing stats off the top of your head is way down on the list of characteristics I want in a car salesman.

I also go into an auto dealership expecting to know more than the salesperson. I have been pleasantly surprised in a few cases.

That said, the general lack of product knowledge on the part of the average auto salesperson is absolutely unacceptable and disgusting.

Ditto. I was surprised by the lightweight nature of the 2000 Cherokee I was lookin at when shopping for a new vehicle. The salesman actually knew all about it!!

This was at a USED car dealorship.

Where I bought my Taurus - the salesmen were WELL informed about Ford vehicles. The gentleman who sold me my Taurus was VERY informative and was able to tell me a lot about Ford history including my Contour before selling it. He also knew quite a bit about the CSVT as well. There is SOME hope out there
